Finding My Place Again
2020 to 2021 was a whirlwind of life. Not only was I/were we dealing with the pandemic and how to keep distance from family and friends while things were so intense. I’d also experienced the loss of my father. In dealing with these two things, it abruptly stopped all things normal, my thoughts became jumbled, and making art unbearable. It took a third act, now nature, to get me back into some type of making.
Texas had a huge winter storm dropping temperatures to negative degrees. If you don’t live in Texas, just know we rarely have temperatures below 20degrees or homes to deal with that kind of cold. We were stuck in the house for over a week and the temperature in the house was around 49 degrees for two solid(literally) days. It was during this time period that allowed me to find that place to make and play with materials creating this small work. The piece is also considered a maquette.
A place to eventually find yourself lost in chaotic lines searching for stability. Maybe find changes in its materials along their paths as you sit along the oversized wooden embroidery loom.
